Captain Caveman,  welcome to the tribe.  Hope you get to brew real soon. If not, I know you can drink some great beers in Germany.  After being in Iraq I'm sure it will be well deserved. Wink Cheesy

Some really good ones.  My every day beer is a Monschoff Kellerbier or their Dunkelbier.  I have had some of the Belgian ales as well and a lot of the local brews.

Blew my mind that in all restuarants a liter of excellent beer is cheaper than .5 liters of Coke! Kiss

...Currently in sunny Iraq, so no beer for me right now (I refuse to cheat on beer with near-beer, beer might never forgive me!) but I am stationed in Germany and can get to the monastary in Kroitsburg in about 2 hours!

Anyway, looks like a lot of great info and the show was way too funny!  Mike check!

Welcome to the Tribe CPT CaveMan

We did a show a year or so ago called Soldier Brewer and we took items that are avaiable to out warriors in the Desert and came up with a recipe and process to make a mead and a cyder. The name of the Cyder was "Soldier in Cyder"

Oh Lord, I hope none of my guys ever find out about it!  I have enough problems riding herd on a company of tankers without them trying to homebrew in their CHU's!

The show is great, I downloaded a few and listen while I do paperwork.

Welcome to the Tribe Caveman.
We have a Caveman in our local brewclub here in Idaho....but he actually looks like the Cavemen in the Geico commercials.....at least according to his kids.

I don't think you are near as hairy as our caveman.....

I thought I posted here earlier but I can't find my post so here goes. I'm a newbee as well. Got my 1st batch in the fermenter as I type. I've been a beer fan for a long time so I thought this would be a great way to enjoy something I already love. Is there a beginners area or should I just submit my dumb questions wherever I please?

Thanks, I've researched homebrewing for a year before actually attempting to brew my 1st batch. So I can follow most of the detailed and advanced discussions here. It's just good talk with some people who love beer as much or more than I do.

Great,  So tell us about your first brew.  Probably make a new thread or post in the bar would be good.  so it doesn't get lost here in introductions.  I can't wait to hear!!

Gonzo, just submit your question on the forum that generally relates to whatever your question is.  Lots of experienced folk on here and you ought to be able to get an answer in a timely manner that should address anything you've got.  We were all first time brewers at one point so don't worry that we might think it's a dumb question.  If you're wondering about it, we were probably wondering about it at some point, too.

It's good to forget about hot side aeration. It's essentially a myth for homebrewers unless you go WAY out of your way to try to get it.

We gave a guy a 60-year birthday present. It was a book about alzeihmers. The inscription: "Here's to meeting new people every day."
